It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eva Waines (née Laursen), who passed away peacefully at the West-Man Nursing Home in Virden, Manitoba, on the evening of May 20, 2025. She was 79 years old.
Eva was born on April 27, 1946, in Skelund, Denmark. She emigrated to Canada in 1957 with her mother, father and three brothers, beginning a life filled with compassion, service, and community spirit.
Eva met her husband, Fred, in her early teens singing in the St. Paul’s United church choir. After a lengthy courtship Eva and Fred were married in 1966.
Eva was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband, Fred, and their two children: Janine and Jonathan, along with Jonathan's wife Crystal and their children Lachlan and Lylah. Her family was her pride and joy, and she was a constant source of love and strength for them.
Deeply rooted in her faith, Eva was an active member of St. Paul’s United Church. She dedicated countless hours to the church community — singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, chairing various committees, and offering her time and talents wherever they were needed.
Eva’s work life was also marked by service. She was employed by the Town of Virden before joining the Virden Empire Advance, where her diligence and warmth left a lasting impression. She was well known throughout the community for her generous spirit, compassionate soul and giving heart. Whether crocheting afghans to comfort others or preparing meals for those in need, Eva never hesitated to lend a helping hand.
Her kindness, faith, and unwavering commitment to others will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the West-Man Nursing Home in Virden, Manitoba, for the years of excellent care Eva received.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s United Church in Virden.
Eva will be dearly missed and forever cherished.
